Virtual Tour of Springside

Plan of Springside

Plan of Springside, from Lossing, 1867 (photo: Vassar College Library).
The log cabin insert was located in the farm area (number 44 on the map above.

This 1867 map shows Springside as it was developed for Matthew Vassar. The main entrance was at the west end of the property on Academy Street. (The arrow on the map points north.) The home and ornamental grounds are depicted on the left. The area to the right was the working farm. Today most of the former farm area is a condominium development. Springside Landscape Restoration owns the rest of the property – the 19.83 acres that included Vassar’s home and pleasure gardens. The virtual tour explores that area.
