22. The Pagoda

“a wall of neatly trimmed cedar shrubs, higher than our heads”

— Benson J. Lossing, Vassar College and Its Founder, 1867

A narrow lane with “a wall of neatly trimmed cedar shrubs, higher than our heads” once led to an Asian-inspired pagoda or gazebo. The structure was noted as a resting spot for couples strolling the grounds. The stone chimney currently standing is a remnant of a 20th century structure.
