WALKING TOUR

18. APIARY

“The curious little building on the right at the corner of the garden is the Apiary, whose vane, an enormous golden honey-bee swinging over a hive, denotes its use.”

— Benson J. Lossing, Vassar College and Its Founder, 1867

At the southwest corner of the Flower and Kitchen Garden, stood Vassar’s L-shaped bee house.

In this photo, beyond Vassar’s (Gardener’s) Cottage, the glass Grapery and Greenhouse are visible.
