WALKING TOUR

13. FARMYARD & AVIARY

Actually two separate structures, the office and aviary were joined by an archway over which was a dovecote. This archway also formed the entrance into the barnyard. The aviary began on the south side of the archway and was mirrored by an adjoining wing inside the barnyard. Between the wings there was a long wire enclosure constructed to house Vassar’s extensive bird collection, which included doves, wood-ducks, peacocks, geese, hens, herons, cockatoos, pheasants, and pigeons.
