Springside’s sole surviving building needs you! Last painted in 2000 with its 1852 historic colors, it’s due for critical maintenance. Your support will see that Porter’s Lodge gets repainted and protected from the elements. Your generosity will ensure that necessary carpentry work will fix rotted wood and the foundation and chimney masonry get repointed. Any amount that you can give is most appreciated!
More than 800-plus-feet long and 160-years-old, the magnificently built stone retaining wall on Academy Street needs your love! Stones have tumbled out in six areas and need repair. Your support will help pay for a mason to fix the wall. Your donation will help keep Poughkeepsie’s southern gateway an elegant and welcoming entrance. Please give the amount that fits your budget. Thank you!
Open 365 days a year, dawn to dusk for free – Springside relies on your support! An all volunteer crew cares for the 20-acre site, maintains the carriage trails, cleans up storm damage, develops and updates interpretative materials including the walking trail and website, and plans for special projects. We can only do it with your help. Please give today in any amount. Your generosity is so appreciated!
Springside was the country seat of Matthew Vassar, a prosperous Poughkeepsie brewer and the founder of Vassar College. Springside’s designer, A. J. Downing is often referred to as the father of American Landscape Architecture and today, Springside is the only documented surviving example of his work.
