This shaded hill, next to Vassar’s Cottage and overlooking a meadow, was covered with large trees, hemlock saplings, a group of stones, and had rustic benches on the summit for the Vassar family knitters “to sit and chat…while busy fingers make the worsted meshes grow into beauteous forms and tints.” Walk toward the stone piers ahead.
